If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle gal to keep you company, Maya is your perfect companion.

The first four days in her foster home she hid away in a corner behind a water heater. Then she started trusting that the person giving her gravy treats and gentle pets might not be so bad after all! She started carefully coming out of her hiding spot to purr and get treats. Once she felt confident in her foster home, Maya started following her foster parent around to always be in the same room with them, rubbing on their legs, watching birds out the window, and sleeping cuddled up beside them at night. She is fearful of being picked up, but that doesn’t deter her from asking for lots of pets, head scratches, and nighttime cuddles once she’s comfortable. She has a great bill of health, pearly white teeth, and a calming demeanour. You’ll love petting her silky soft black fur and looking into her kind eyes.

Maya had some bad experiences with other cats and used to pluck her fur very thin from stress. But, amazingly, she adjusted well in her foster home with another shy cat, taking turns playfully surprising each other around corners when they have the zoomies. Maya is no longer plucking her fur, as seen by her thick coat in her pictures, a physical sign that she is feeling much happier and safer in her new life.

Maya is cautious when meeting someone new or adapting to a new environment, but will bond strongly with her trusted person. She is well suited for a quiet home where she can let her gentle personality shine. Maya is looking for a patient, gentle spirit just like hers who will put the time in to gain her trust and love.
