Beat the Heat
A Spay-It-Forward Initiative
Our Goal.
Our goals are to raise funds and bring awareness to the overpopulation of unowned, unwanted, and unfixed cats in Saskatchewan. The funds raised are necessary in order to offer high-volume, low cost spay and neuter services to the residents of Saskatchewan that provide care to stray and community cats.
We hope to humanely reduce the cat overpopulation by offering spay/neuter services at a discounted rate. This will inadvertently prevent animals from suffering cruelty, neglect, homelessness, and improve the quality of life for both pets and colony cats.
What is Beat the Heat?
Beat the Heat is a pilot Spay-it-Forward program offering low cost spay/neuter services to residents of Saskatchewan who own or care for unfixed cats.
Our mission is to prevent cats in Saskatchewan from suffering cruelty, neglect, homelessness and improve the quality of life of both pets and shelter animals by reducing overpopulation and promoting animal advocacy and wellness, while alleviating the ever-present pressure of rescues and shelters in our province.
How does it Work?
Starting in February, SOS embarks on a fundraising campaign to gather enough resources for spaying and neutering services in March. The program invites applications from those unable to afford or qualify for reduced-price spay/neuter services, adopting a first-come, first-served selection process based on the availability of funds and clinic locations. Once applicants are chosen, SOS coordinates with clinics to schedule surgery dates and communicates these details to the cat owners, who must then agree to the terms, pre-pay the surgery fee, and sign a consent form. The surgeries aim to not only reduce the number of homeless cats but also provide health benefits to the participating felines. Any remaining funds are used to extend the program into subsequent months, ensuring its sustainability and continued impact on the community.

If your pet is over the age of 5, it is advised that pre- operative bloodwork should be completed and brought the day of the appointment.
