Adoption Fees

Transparent fees. Thoughtful care. Every adoption makes the next rescue possible.

Why Does SOS Have Adoption Fees?

Adoption fees are not a price for a cat.

Every SOS cat receives complete veterinary support before adoption — including:

  • spay or neuter surgery

  • vaccinations

  • microchipping

  • parasite treatment

  • diagnostics and medical care when needed

The reality is simple:

the cost of saving a life is almost always far greater than the adoption fee.

What is paid at adoption reflects only a fraction of the investment already made.

As a volunteer-run nonprofit, SOS Prairie Rescue depends on community support to continue this work.

Each adoption is not an endpoint — but a transition — one that allows us to create space for the next rescue waiting to be seen.

Every cat. Every time. No exceptions.

Adoption fees are not a price for a cat. They represent only a small portion of the care required to bring a cat safely to this point.

Every SOS cat receives complete veterinary support before adoption.

Including spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, parasite treatment, diagnostics, and medical care when needed.

The reality is straightforward: the cost of saving a life is almost always far greater than the adoption fee. What is paid at adoption reflects only a fraction of the investment already made.

The Reality Behind Rescue Care

Every cat that enters our care receives what they need, not just what’s minimal.

From routine care to emergency intervention, the cost of rescue adds up quickly. Many cats require far more than the basics, especially those coming from neglect, injury, or illness.

Adoption fees help offset only a portion of this care and the rest is made possible through community support.

Average cost of care often exceeds $500+ per cat
