SOS Prairie Rescue is a foster-based, volunteer-run organization. We are not a shelter with open intake and do not have a physical facility.
Every request is reviewed with care but we receive far more requests than we can take in.
Submitting a request does not guarantee intake.
Cats facing injury, illness, or unsafe conditions requiring urgent intervention.
Kittens, pregnant or nursing mothers, and cats needing immediate medical support.
Situations where intervention or TNR helps prevent future suffering at scale.
Cats already in our care or returning to rescue who require ongoing support.
Our goal is to reduce suffering and create the greatest impact for cats in our communities.
We prioritize emergency situations, vulnerable populations, and cases where intervention prevents future suffering.
Friendly, healthy cats needing rehoming are important — but may wait longer or be supported through alternative options first.
We often work alongside you — not instead of you.
If your cat is safe, we may guide you through rehoming instead of intake.
Most requests are reviewed within a few days
Urgent cases are prioritized first
Duplicate submissions may delay response

We wish we could say yes to every cat.Truly.
But responsible rescue means making hard decisions — so we don’t fail the cats already in our care.
Every intake we accept is a promise: to fully vet, support, and follow through.
Thank you for caring enough to ask for help.
